💙 Help Us Restore Freedom: A Wheelchair-Accessible Van for Thomas

Hello, my name is Alexis Ward, and I’m reaching out as both the spouse and full-time caregiver of the most determined, creative, and resilient man I know—my husband, Thomas.

Thomas is a devoted family man and artist whose hands once crafted beautiful guitars and intricate wooden creations. Before his diagnosis, he was a hardworking provider as a long-haul truck driver, traveling across states to support our family. Due to his health challenges—end-stage renal disease and ongoing dialysis—he’s no longer able to work, yet he never stops inspiring us with his strength and kindness. He relies on SSDI with a fixed income and uses a wheelchair full time.

Standard vehicles put Thomas in pain, risk his safety, and limit our family outings. We need your help to fund a wheelchair-accessible van that will:

  • Provide safe, dignified transport to his five-day-a-week dialysis treatments and doctor appointments
  • Ease the physical strain on me as his caregiver
  • Restore our freedom to travel, make memories, and connect with loved ones

Our Progress & Financials

• Down payment toward a used van purchase: $15,000

• Adjusted fundraising goal: $45,000

  • Remaining vehicle loan balance & conversions: $25,000
  • Floor modifications & securement systems: $12,000
  • Commercial wheelchair lift installation: $5,500
  • Transfer-style driver’s seat installation: $7,000

Every dollar brings us closer. Whether you can give, share, or send words of encouragement, your support means hope, mobility, and cherished time together.

With gratitude,
Alexis Ward

We’re incredibly grateful for the $1,800 that’s been donated so far. Thanks to your support, we’ve been able to purchase a used wheelchair lift and begin making payments on the loan for the van itself. This van is essential for Alexis to continue her caregiving and for our family to regain safe, reliable mobility.

We’re still working toward our full goal to cover the remaining cost and ensure long-term accessibility. Every share, donation, and word of encouragement brings us closer.

Thank you for standing with us—we truly feel the love.

💛 Donor Shout-Out 💛

We're So Grateful — $1,400 Raised and Counting!

We want to send a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who has supported our journey so far. Because of your generosity, we’ve now raised $1,400 toward converting our van for wheelchair accessibility — every single dollar brings us closer to comfort, freedom, and dignity.

Your kindness reminds us that we're not walking this road alone. Whether you donated, shared, or cheered us on from afar, you’ve helped fuel a vision of independence and ease, especially for Alexis, whose caregiving never stops.

This van means more than mobility — it’s about making daily life safer and more manageable for our entire family.

We’re still working toward our updated goal of $45,000, and we believe with your help, we’ll get there. Every gift counts, and every show of support lifts us higher.

From the bottom of our hearts,
Thank you.

With love,
Thomas & Alexis

Updated Story: A Van for Our Journey—With Gratitude to Alexis

Thanks to the incredible strength and generosity of my wife, Alexis, we’ve raised $15,000 to put a down payment on a used van. It’s a major milestone toward restoring my mobility and independence. Because we live on a fixed income, we’ve had to take out a loan to make this possible—and the van still needs to be fully converted for wheelchair accessibility.

Every dollar donated will go directly toward this van and the conversion process: installing a wheelchair lift, a transfer seat, slide rails, and making the interior safe and functional for both of us. Alexis, my wife and caregiver, has already given so much—emotionally, physically, and financially. This journey is hers too, and together we’re asking for help to reach the finish line.

Your support—whether through a donation, a share, or words of encouragement—can turn this van into something life-changing. It’s more than just transportation. It’s freedom, comfort, and a way for Alexis and I to keep showing up for each other every single day.

Goal Adjustment:

Because of the incredible gift from my wife Alexis—who contributed $15,000 toward a down payment on the van—we’re adjusting our campaign goal from $75,000 to $45,000. This reflects the amount still needed to convert the van for full wheelchair accessibility and help manage loan payments.

Your support goes straight to the essentials: the conversion, the lift, transfer seat, safety features, and the modifications that make this van truly usable for daily life. Every dollar counts, and every dollar will be used for this van and its transformation.

Together, we’ve come this far. Now let’s bring it home.
