Hello, my name is Lyman DeLiguori, and I’m a 70-year-old resident of Wolverine, Michigan. Asking for help is never easy for me, but I want to be transparent about my situation. I’m raising funds to purchase a Ham Radio amplifier, a tool that is more than a hobby to me, it’s my lifeline. Wolverine is located quite North in Michigan. There is a Map at the end of this Story
About Me
I’ve lived through harsh winters, from New Hampshire to the intense Lake Effect snow of Wolverine. Life here is lonely. With only 309 residents, most people are either snowmobiling, ice fishing, or boating. I don’t have much to do, and my passion, Ham Radio, keeps me connected to the world.
Why I Need Your Help
Ham Radio is my lifeline. It allows me to communicate, socialize, and feel part of a larger community. But I need an amplifier to hear more clearly, and reduce noise. Since I am legally deaf in my right ear, 50% hearing in my left ear, this amplifier will make a world of difference to reach out.
My Journey
I started Ham Radio in 2008 and loved every moment. I once had equipment worth $20,000, but financial hardships forced me to sell it to prioritize helping a family with three young children. In 2023, after a 30-year marriage ended, I moved to Wolverine with a friend’s offer of accommodation, only to discover that my savings were needed to cover his massive debts and urgent home repairs. I paid his past due property taxes to avoid Foreclosure from both the Town and other Creditors, cleared liens, replaced the Well pump and hot water heater, Furnace, and my amplifier savings disappeared.
Why This Amplifier Matters
Doing nothing day after day is slowly eating away at me. This amplifier isn’t just equipment, it’s a way to hear, communicate, and feel alive. Any support you can offer, big or small, will bring me closer to reclaiming this vital part of my life.
Medical Challenges
At 70 years old, I also face serious health issues. I am under the care of a Hematologist/Oncologist, and I’ve had ongoing eye problems requiring an Ophthalmologist. In July 2025, I was rushed to Munson Hospital in critical condition, taking the Ambulance 30 minutes to arrive. Living remotely means emergencies are even more dangerous.
My Professional Background
I spent my career as a Network Administrator for Lockheed, Raytheon, and Qualcomm, working on highly classified projects with the highest security clearance a Civilian can hold. Even after a career of intense work and responsibility, my current challenge is simple: I need to restore my connection to the world through Ham Radio. I have worked hard all my life.
At Lockheed, due to the extremely Classified nature of the work I was involved with, it was not uncommon for me to work 24, 48 or 72 hours straight - no sleep. A Senior Vice President once coined a phrase "We do not pay Lyman any Overtime, we charge him Rent". It was a compliment.
