Update: Thank you to all who have donated and continue to offer Rachel support in every way. I can assure you she is deeply appreciative as is her community. This battle isn't over and the state of NM is continuing by asking for more and more. We do require another round of legal fees to be raised so that our efforts to be able to keep Rachel safe from persecution continue. We thank you so much!
We are once again in the position to be called into action for a fellow birth worker. Rachel is a valued leader in her community and supports families' autonomy to birth where they choose; and this is currently being treated as a legal risk in New Mexico.
Supporting birthing families should not be viewed as a criminal act. Rachel does not practice licensed Midwifery or obstetrical services. She is a wise woman who understands the natural rhythms of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum process and now has to prove this in a court of law; and this legal matter has wide implications for all birth workers in New Mexico.
