To all Family and Friends, it is with a heavy heart to tell you that my father Ojulu Akway Oballa Obang (kosti) passed away the late evening of August 24th, 2026. My father took the greatest pride in being a husband, father, and believer in dedication advocacy.
His life was defined by compassion, courage, service and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. From an early age, those around him recognized his ability to connect with others, through his generous heart and peaceful nature. He had a remarkable gift to for brining people together, and this presence brought comfort , encouragement, and light to those fortunate enough to know him. My Father was a man of many talents and accomplishments. Even from an early age he had demonstrated a great and deep commitment to helping others. As the country experienced profound political upheaval and divisions, he made the hardest decision at the time for him at the time, which was to leave his home country and the Ethiopian air force which he was apart of at the time. From his country Addis abba to the neighboring country of Sudan(Khartoum). While in Sudan, My father continued to serve, and work along side Ethiopian opposition forces: To bring greater awareness to the struggles of Ethiopians. His continued struggles and commitment to justice carried over even after he had immigrated to the United States of America in 1990.
After Settling in Washington, D.C where he kept up his opposition to the injustice faced to those leaving in the countries capital before finally moving to Sioux falls, South Dakota. Even in the middle of a less know part of the country, my father remained deeply committed in advocacy and community service throughout all his life in the United States, he participated and led efforts opposing injustice under Ethiopia's ethnic based political system. My Dad gave his all in every part of his life, He led by example and served other wholeheartedly, and never lost site of his people and principles he cared about most. His kindness, Leadership, Courage, and dedication to his family and community will continue to live in those he inspired. My Father Ojulu, Was a proud Ethiopian, He loved his country and wanted it to prosper democratically and peacefully.
His legacy of courage, love, leadership, and service to the community will continue to live on through his loved ones and community. He will be deeply missed in this life and the next one, And we will remember him for everything he's done not for his family but those around him forever.
