This is Lola.

Lola is my mom’s 7 year old sweet, spunky miniature pinscher. She’s a cuddle bug and athlete, a stage 5 clinger who loves burrowing under blankets and sleeping as close to you as possible, but also a fearless little girl with endless energy and personality.

A little while ago, Lola was diagnosed with a high grade mast cell tumor. The good news is that after meeting with the oncology team, we learned she most likely won’t need chemotherapy or radiation after all. Instead her best chance at a full recovery is a second surgery to remove a wider margin of tissue around where the tumor was. It’s a much better outcome than we were expecting, and I am incredibly grateful for that.

The challenge is the cost. Between her diagnostics, first surgery, specialist appointments, and follow up care, I’ve already spent over $3,000 trying to give Lola the best chance possible. Her revision surgery will cost another $4,500 and I’ve reached the point where I don’t think I can do it alone.

This has all come during one of the hardest years of our lives. My mom’s dementia has progressed and Lola now lives with us because my mom can no longer safely care for her on her own. Through all of the confusion and loss that dementia brings, Lola has remained one of the few constants in my mom’s world. She brings comfort, routine, and joy on days when those things can be really hard to find.

Asking for help is incredibly uncomfortable for me. If there were any way for me to cover this on my own, I would. But I’ve learned that sometimes accepting help is just as important as giving it.

If you’re able to donate, every dollar will go directly toward Lola’s surgery and follow up care. Thank you for loving Lola, cheering her on, and helping us give her the future she deserves.
