Support Selinda's Brain Surgery Recovery Fund
Our beloved friend and revolutionary organizer, Selinda Guerrero, has poured so much love into the community across the country and especially right here in her homelands, Unceded Tiwa Pueblo Lands, over the past 35 years through intentional intergenerational organizing in countless local, national, and international coalitions rooted in collective liberation.
Selinda’s devotion to the long work of abolishing systems of oppression can be seen in her commitment to fighting for food justice through co-launching ABQ Mutual Aid, which shared food and resources with over 100,000 community members.
Selinda has also been a powerful force in building Millions for Prisoners NM, organizing to abolish slavery, and uplifting the humanity of systems-impacted people through her organizing.
In mid-February, Selinda will undergo brain surgery to remove a tumor that is completely encasing the right carotid siphon. The tumor is 3.6 x 2.3 cm and extends across several vital regions of her brain. The mass of this tumor is reducing her vision and limiting major blood flow to the brain. Since the tumor is intertwined with these structures, the surgery will be extremely delicate and complex.
We are calling on our beloved community to help raise $13,500 to cover Selinda’s loss of wages, bills, basic needs, and travel expenses for loved ones to provide care for her and her family during the first three months of her recovery so she can fully focus on healing. While she has applied for general assistance and temporary disability, it has not yet been approved.
This is a serious surgery with immense risk. In the event of Selinda’s passing, any additional funds raised will be used to support the processing of her body, supporting her children and family as they navigate grief; and fulfilling Selinda’s wish for a community “Block Party” to celebrate her Revolutionary life and legacy.
