The Humboldt Park Solidarity Network (HPSN) is a mutual aid group whose main project is the Casa Hernandez Community Space on North Avenue in Humboldt Park, Chicago. Casa Hernandez hosts a free store, offering neighbors a welcoming place to “shop” around for clothes, food, housewares, and more. Casa Hernandez also hosts art shows, workshops, and concerts. Past workshops include an Overdose Reversal Training, a Housing Workshop, and a class on Cooking with Healthy Foods. The space is open to hosting events facilitated by community members!
Our group began in response to COVID-19. Since the pandemic began, we have created a network of community members that work together to support the needs of our neighbors. We began small, providing volunteers with materials to make masks, which we distributed to those who needed them. In the past, we hosted pop-up pantries around Humboldt Park, and now we still distribute fresh foods and pantry staples during the free store’s open hours!
Our network keeps growing, but so do the needs of our community. With your support, we will grow, adapt, learn, and continue to support our neighbors.
