A hardworking family, new to the U.S., is forgoing a Christmas tree and presents in order to pay off surprise medical bills. At a recent trip to the pediatrician, their two daughters received a total of eleven vaccines. The children’s insurance coverage had unknowingly lapsed, and the family was sent medical bills totaling $1,400. Now, the family has the difficult task of paying the bills off.
