The last few weeks have not been easy for any of us. No one in this community has been immune to the destruction and disorder brought on by Hurricane Ian.
For the third time since Liberty opened in September of 2019, we are having to rebuild again. When we took over the space, we donated everything that was usable from the previous restaurant. Food, plates, silverware, cookware- we wanted to start with a clean slate. We spent a lot of time, money and energy building out the vision for Liberty. I’ve seen that vision coming to life in recent months. Like anything worth building, it takes time.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, we lost all perishable products. That inventory loss, combined with employee wages, utilities, rent, insurance, and regular costs associated with operations, have created a new set of financial challenges for Liberty. These are new obstacles that the business cannot sustain as we continue to pay back losses from covid. Prioritizing my staff and offering guests a unique dining experience will always come first, but I know recovering from this catastrophic event will take time and support.
Liberty has endured many challenges in its short three year history, but we’ve always managed to overcome them. This new set of challenges puts me in a situation I didn’t think I would ever face. In this moment of vulnerability, I must admit, I need the community’s support. Any size donation would help Liberty cover employee pay for work missed, complete loss of food, lost revenue, and ultimately rebuilding what this business has worked so hard to establish, which is to serve others with the utmost grace.
I am immensely grateful to be able to reopen the doors to Liberty this week, 10/13. We are preparing a new menu from scratch, and will be offering dinner service Thursday, Friday & Saturday. We will resume regular operation Wednesday 10/19. We love reservations, but they are not required. Feel free to give us a call and let us know you’re on the way, or just stop on in. We look forward to providing a comfortable space for you to relax and enjoy our alternative approach to dinner service. Thank you for continuing to help us feed & support our community. And thank you for taking the time to read how Hurricane Ian and the last few years have truly changed my life forever.
🖤 Bob
