On June 1 2023, RJ went for a ride on his cruiser motorcycle to go visit a friend and he went the backroads home because of traffic. There was a car broken down on the side of the road and the car in front of him slammed on his brakes, RJ downshifted to slow down but when he did his back tire locked and he was thrown off his bike. Thank goodness he went to the right and into a grassy ditch while his bike went across the road to the other side. And yes he was wearing a helmet!!!
So overall not great news but not as bad as it could have been! He doesn’t need surgery but has way more broken bones than we initially thought! 3 breaks in his hip/pelvis area, one break in his wrist and 5 broken transverse processors on his spine. Quite a bit of road rash on his right arm and some on his legs. A little bit of bleeding internally but nothing the doctors are worried about. He’ll stay in the hospital for at least a few more days and then he’ll be transferred to a rehabilitation facility where he’ll have to stay for a few weeks.
He is in good spirits considering and we’re all so thankful that it is not worse!
Current! RJ has been moved to Re-hab and God willing will only be there for a week. For those who know him, he is driven to get well and back to caring for his family! He is making good progress, however he is still looking at a few months of recovery! SO, we are asking friends and family to help to take the financial pressure off so he can focus on recovery!
