💔 Now It’s Our Turn to Show Up for the Spats Family
COMMUNITY , we need you.
There are moments when a community is called upon to do more than simply offer thoughts and prayers. This is one of those moments.
On Friday, 14-year-old Kylie Spats attempted to take her own life. She is currently in the hospital, and her injuries are so severe that doctors have determined she will not recover. Her family is now spending these heartbreaking days beside her, waiting to say goodbye to their little girl.
Five months ago, this same family lost their 14-year-old son to suicide.
Please stop and think about that for a moment.
Two children. Five months apart.
No parent should ever have to bury one child. To face the possibility of losing another child just five months later is a pain that most of us cannot even begin to comprehend.
And I want to make something very clear:
This is NOT a bad family.
This is not a family that didn't love their children. This is not a family that didn't care. This is not a family that failed their kids.
This is a GOOD family going through an absolutely horrific situation.
Suicide is incredibly complex. There is never one simple explanation for why someone reaches that point. We also know that losing someone to suicide can increase vulnerability among those left behind, particularly young people. This is sometimes referred to as suicide contagion or suicide clustering. That does not mean one child caused another child's death. It means that suicide loss can have devastating ripple effects through families and communities.
And this family has already been fighting to survive those ripples.
After losing their son five months ago, they had to take on two jobs just to try to recover financially from the debt and expenses that came with losing their child.
They were already trying to rebuild their lives.
Now they're facing another funeral.
Another devastating loss.
Another mountain of expenses.
And they are still expected to wake up every morning, take care of their family, pay their bills, and somehow keep going.
They shouldn't have to do this alone.
This is a family that has shown up for others. They have helped people. They have supported their community. They have been there when other families were struggling.
Now it's our turn to show up for them.
We are asking our community to come together to help with Kylie's funeral expenses, the financial burden left from the loss of both children, everyday living expenses, and the immediate costs this family is facing while they navigate this unimaginable tragedy.
If you can give $5, give $5.
If you can give $20, give $20.
If you can give $100, it will mean more than you know.
And if you cannot give anything financially, please share this fundraiser. Sharing costs nothing, and one share could put this in front of someone who can make a difference.
Let's surround this family with the same love and support they have shown others.
Let's remind them that they are not alone.
Let's help take even a small piece of this burden off their shoulders.
Birdsboro, this family needs us now.
💔 Please donate.
🙏 Please share.
❤️ Please pray for Kylie, her family, and all of the children who are living through this unimaginable loss.
Let's show the Spats family that when one of our families is hurting, our whole community stands beside them.
