Welcome to the fundraising page for Mykola, Oleksandra, and Alisa Makovetska, a young Ukrainian family who is arriving in the United States (early next week) to escape the war in Ukraine.
My husband and I are sponsoring the Makovetskas through the United for Ukraine Program and will be assisting them with settling intotheir new life in the U.S., when they arrive early next week in Gainesville, Florida.
Oleksandra is a warm, vivacious, and entrepreneurial 26-year-old beautician from Vilkovo (a small town in the Odesa region of Ukraine), and the loving mother to her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Alisa, and fur-mom to her dog, Tosik.
I met Oleksandra before the war, through her volunteer work for a Ukrainian animal rescue to which I donated. Oleksandra tirelessly dedicates her time to helping those in need, organizing charity drives for her local orphanages, traveling tens of miles to help a single mother with a disabled child, and rescuing and fostering abandoned animals. Oleksandra's husband, Mykola, is a commercial maritime sailor who lost his job at the start of the war, due to Russia's closure of Ukraine's water ports.
Although we have found the family an apartment, there are still so many items that need to be purchased and obtained in order to properly welcome Mykola, Oleksandra, and Alisa. All donations will go directly to buying needed items for the family's apartment or for funding the purchase of a car for them to get around in.
