I have been raising my daughter solo for 11 years. I lost my job in October 2024. I have been working with NC works working diligently to obtain a Job. In this time frame I applied to many jobs including Physical Therapist Assistant, Target, Olive Garden, Outback Steak House, Texas Road House, Target etc many, many positions. I am a licensed PTA. I was willing to do any other Job in the meantime to substitute until I landed a PTA position. Any and all the other job applications I submitted that were just regular jobs I had been denied employment. They reported in so many words I was overqualified. This made me feel even more hopeless as I was trying to do all I could to maintain food, shelter, bills, car. I do not have family to reach out to. It has been a very long and difficult road raising my daughter on my own, I have sole custody and do not receive child support. Even as PTA when I had a full time job I was struggling to maintain paycheck to paycheck. As of 12/8/24 , I am still without work. Last week I interviewed and shadowed an Ophthalmologist Clinic. My response back from the employer was that they were unable to provide the pay scale I was requesting, I inquired asking what they would offer for pay, they said they would get back to me and never did. I accepted a PTA position in Raleigh 2 weeks ago and was offered the position. Traveling one way is 1.5 hours to get to work, but I have no choice. When I submitted everything they had requested, it was discovered that my license expired. I tired to renew my license and it would not allow me because I had an unpaid speeding ticket that I had thought the attorney I had hired had taken care of. I have no money, none. I am negative with money I owe for rent, car payments, no gas money to travel, to/from work, and also without a license, can not drive until ticket of over 300.00 is paid, 133.00 +25 dollars to have my license activated. I have been going to food banks. You can only go once a week. Its not enough to last the week for me and my daughter, spaghetti noodles, one small can of pasta, a couple of sweet potato's, can of corn, can of tuna fish, small jar of peanut butter, one small package of soft oreo cookies. I have no money for feminine products. I reached out to section 8 to apply I was told they were not accepting applications anymore because they have over 2,000 applications. I went to all the organizations set up in the community, I qualified for low income housing but you have to show proof of income which I do not have presently. Its really sad that all these non- profit organizations that are set up to help people could not help either my daughter or my self. I was able to qualify for food stamps, I received the card and they had sent 68.00 dollars when I inquired about the amount, the amount had been increased to 177.00 for the month but that credit would not be applied until the beginning of January 2025. I have been praying to God for him to make a way for us and I know he will because he would never forsake us. My daughter needs sneakers because the pair she had from last year the sole has worn out in the front of the foot and her feet get wet when outside with these weather conditions. I have never been so low in my life, I feel completely helpless and almost homeless, I am about ready to lose my car in I do not make a payment soon. I have poor credit from my struggles and unable to get an apartment to rent to be closer to my soon to be new Job. I am a women that has never wanted to ask for help. I desperately need help. My daughter already knows we won't have a Christmas and all she is asking for is a pair of sneakers. Can anyone please, please help us?
