Update: November 6, 2023. We can't help but feel extremely blessed and thankful as we approach this Thanksgiving season. Many thanks to all that have donated!!! We have so far been able to keep Nanny at the facility that takes such good care of her. Our heartfelt appreciation, thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.
The picture above was taken not too long before we found out that Dementia was invading our precious Nanny. Several years later we are in the situation of having to make tougher decisions than we have already made. As often happens, funding has become an issue. We are currently looking at the potential of having to move her from a private care facility that has been her home for almost two years, to a nursing home that will accept her meager fixed income as payment. We would love to not have to move her. Her current environment is customized for people with cognitive debilities.
I have witnessed my Mother-in-law care for countless people since I have had the honor of being a part of her family. Everyone that came to her house was welcomed with open arms, an abundance of love, and food. Everyone was a special someone.
She is unable to speak most days, but still greets everyone with a smile. Her warmth and caring nature still radiates, although her nurturing hands are so crippled she can no longer feed herself. We face overwhelming uncertainty with a move to a nursing home, because she requires the highest level of care that is offered in a private facility.
