Preserving the Legacy of the Navajo Code Talkers:
Navajo Code Talker Museum & Veterans Center
In 1982, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed August 14th as National Navajo Code Talkers Day. 2022 marks the 80th anniversary of the over 400 Navajo men recruited during World War II as Code Talkers, an elite group of U.S. Marines who developed an unbreakable code using their native language. The Code Talkers participated in every major Marine operation in the Pacific theater, giving the Marines a critical advantage throughout the war. Marine leadership noted after the battle that the Code Talkers were critical to the victory at Iwo Jima.
With only three Code Talkers remaining, it is critical that we come together to support the creation and establishment of the Navajo Code Talker Museum and Veterans Center. By honoring the legacy of the Code Talkers with a museum, it will allow the preservation of the Navajo Code Talkers while educating the public and providing a place of refuge, renewal, and healing for all veterans, military personnel, and their families.
