My sister Mona has been through so much. Right now, she’s using a catheter that isn’t meant for long-term use and puts her at a much higher risk for infection. In November 2024, she was rushed to the hospital when her access site failed. By then, every typical access point in her upper body—both arms and her chest—had already been used up. The only option left was a femoral line, which is far from ideal.
Mona is now preparing to travel for a medical procedure because the local hospitals simply don’t have the specialized equipment or expertise needed for the advanced procedure she needs. She’s run out of standard options, and at this point, only highly advanced care can help her.
It’s heartbreaking to watch her go through this. After everything she’s endured, she’s lost trust in the care available to her—and honestly, I don’t blame her. This trip is a big step, but it’s necessary. She deserves the best chance at healing, and we’re holding onto hope that she’ll find it in Hawaii.
