Help Me Stay by Jack’s Side
My name is TK. For the past 12 years, I’ve had the privilege of calling Jack my friend.
Jack is 91 years old, and he’s one of those rare people who makes everyone feel welcome. He’s kind, generous, and genuinely loved by everyone who knows him—especially within the classic car show community. If you’ve ever met Jack, you know exactly the kind of person I’m talking about.
Recently, Jack suffered a serious medical setback and is currently recovering from the toll it took on his body. During the hardest part of this setback, he couldn’t even get to the bathroom or care for himself without help. While we’re hopeful rehabilitation will help him regain some independence, he’ll continue to need assistance with meals, transportation, paying bills, coordinating doctor’s appointments, and many of the day-to-day tasks that most of us take for granted.
When Jack asked me to stay by his side and help care for him, I couldn’t say no.
Because of that decision, I’ve stepped away from work. My job doesn’t offer paid time off or vacation, so every day I’m caring for Jack is a day without income. I’ve already lost more than a month’s wages and expect to be away from work for several more months while helping him recover and, eventually, as he transitions into the next stage of his care.
I’m not asking for luxury or extras. I’m simply hoping to cover my own basic living expenses—just essential bills and things that cannot be ignored —so I can continue being there for Jack without worrying about how I’ll stay afloat.
If you know Jack, you know how much joy he’s brought to so many people over the years. If you don’t know him, I hope you’ll know this: he deserves to spend this chapter of his life with someone he trusts, in the comfort and dignity he deserves.
Asking for help is incredibly difficult for me, and I almost didn’t create this fundraiser. But caring for Jack is where I know I’m supposed to be right now.
