Composer Shanyse Strickland's groundbreaking work titled Afrofuturism, commissioned by trumpetist Theresa May, was selected to be on the program at the 7th annual Music by Women Festival on March 2-4, 2023! The event takes place at the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. Ms May, Ms Strickland and pianist Megan Denman are thrilled to have the opportunity to share Afrofuturism at this event.
Unfortunately, as is the case with many of these types of festivals, participants are expected to pay to participate and are not reimbursed for any of their travel, time spent at the event or preparations for the event.
This is where we ask for your help. Our fundraiser will help cover the cost of the flight from Cleveland, Ohio to Columbus, Mississippi, lodging for the weekend, meals and other necessary expenses.
