3 years ago I went to Mexico City for the first time, returned last year and plan to go back again as soon as it is safe to do so. I did not go to enjoy lavish beaches, luxurious hotels, or the many famous tourist attractions. I went to go help the poor.
On the outskirts of Mexico City there is a place known as the dumps, which is essentially an endless mountain range of trash where families live and work everyday. The families sort through the mountains of trash looking for recycable materials that they can sell in the city. The families make $15 a week if they are lucky. Their homes are made of items they find in the dumps such as wooden palates, car parts, tarps, and more. My family and I met and spent a lot of time getting to know the people in the dumps and they are amazing, special, and inspiring people that are hard working but very poor. The families cannot afford to send their children to school becuase they cannot afford uniforms and supplies which is mandatory for students to attend.
I set up this page so we can help send these children to school where they can receive an education and maybe find a way out of the dumps. $10 or more can go a long way in helping these children.
Please contribute what you can so that the great peple of Hope of the Poor (the organization that has been serving the people in the dumps for many years) can purchase and provide the school supplies to the families and children that desparately need them. Thank you.
