Help A Veteran Keep Her Family Home

A Veteran's Plea for Hope, Stability, and a Second Chance. I am an honorably discharged Female Veteran. Today, I am reaching out with humility to ask for your compassion and assistance during one of the most difficult periods of my life. For many months, I became the primary caregiver for my older sister, who is totally and permanently disabled and depends entirely on me for nutrition and survival. She requires around-the-clock care and is completely dependent on others for every aspect of her daily life.
When there was nowhere else for her to go, I welcomed her into my home. An electric hospital bed fills my living room while I coordinate her care. The various medical equipment and constant use of electricity have caused my electric bill to rise to nearly $1,200. At the same time, her benefits were unexpectedly interrupted, leaving me responsible for expenses I could never have anticipated. Despite my own physical limitations, I paid for nursing care and caregivers out of my own pocket because my sister's health and dignity depended on it.

After months of searching, I was finally able to secure safe and appropriate facility that could accommodate her extensive medical needs. Although I am grateful she is now receiving the care she deserves, the financial sacrifices required to protect her life placed my own family in severe financial hardship. Today, I am facing $14,656.00 in past-due rent, and my family is at risk of losing our home. My household also includes my 10-year-old granddaughter and grandson, both of whom deserve the safety and stability of a secure home. The possibility of eviction has created overwhelming emotional stress, anxiety, depression, and uncertainty, the case is currently with the Sheriffs office-facing a 5-Day lock out! The thought of becoming homeless after dedicating myself to caring for a loved one is heartbreaking. As Veterans, we are taught to serve others before ourselves. I never imagined I would be in the position of asking for help, but I have exhausted every resource available to me. I am actively seeking other assistance through homeless prevention programs, community organizations, VA organizations and charitable agencies as well. However, the amount owed exceeds what I can resolve on my own. Your support would do far more than pay rent. It would prevent homelessness, preserve the stability of my family, and provide us with the opportunity to recover from an extraordinary hardship that resulted from caring for someone who could not care for herself. Any contribution, no matter what the amount, will make a meaningful difference. If you're able to provide any assistance toward my rental balance, it will help keep a Veteran and her family safely housed while we continue rebuilding our lives.
