WLRN was founded to break the sound barrier women are blocked by under the status quo rule of men in May 2016, after founding member Thistle was banned from the WORT 89.9 FM community radio station in Madison, Wisconsin for the radical feminist programming she brought to WORT's airwaves. Other volunteers at the station accused her of "hateful bigotry" for her feminist views and the leadership at the station acquiesced to their demand that she be banned.
For the past nine years, WLRN has released a collectively crafted radical feminist podcast each month featuring interviews, women's world news stories, commentary, and hand-picked music from female artists. WLRN also publishes a blog with articles and book reviews penned by collective members as well as guest writers.
This October, four members of the WLRN collective will be crossing the Atlantic to attend the FiLiA Conference, Europe's largest feminist conference. FiLiA organizers have generously gifted WLRN members with tickets to the conference, but travel and accommodation costs are up to us—and this is where we could use your help!
Please consider donating to support Thistle, Freda, Goldie, and aurora as we make our way to the UK for this incredible opportunity to connect with feminists from around the world.
Anything you can contribute is sincerely appreciated!
