Kakuma Camp is the second-largest refugee camp in the world. Hundreds of thousands of refugees from all over Africa are here.
Within Kakuma, there is a population of LGBTQ refugees, some with children. Kauma is filled with many different people, many of whom have always known of homophobic culture of hate. They carry that hate to the LGBTQ refugees here. And their kids.
These refugees fight for their very survival. Tormentors, police, and sometimes other government officials will beat them, jail them, burn down their homes while they are inside, tear gas them, starve them. It is beyond horrible.
In the midst of this nightmare, these refugees ask for help for the innocent children of the LGBTQ people.
These kids need food. They eat rice and beans once a day.
These children need mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets to sleep. Now they sleep on the ground or the floor.
They need medical intervention, for they have all been tear-gassed, they are all malnourished, and they all contend with round after round of typhoid and malaria.
They have no school. No books or crayons or finger paint. No storybooks or music books or ABCs and 123s. No Suess. No Sesame Street. They have never heard of Mr. Rogers or the Paw Patrol.
