Some of you are aware that Eric has been ill for a while. He was diagnosed not long ago with end stage viral cirrhosis of the liver. He contracted this disease (Hepatitis C) around 2010 (unbeknownst to Eric), when he took in a young man who was an addict on house arrest as a favor to his parents who had to move out of county without him. Money was tight and Eric and the young man shared razors and clippers. The young man contracted the virus while or before living with Eric, and has been treated twice for it now.
Eric was given up to 2 years to live without a transplant. The many co-pays for specialty visits, tests, procedures, biopsies, medications and eventually a transplant are not something he can afford on a teacher's salary, even with insurance coverage that will involve a lot of extra payments. With his current roommate losing his position recently, their new apartment is now too expensive to keep and they will need to find something cheaper.
Eric plans to fight this disease, but without funding and a strong support network, this is a daunting mountain to climb. Eric is only in the first round of this nightmare boxing match, so there are a lot of ifs, whens, and how longs.
Please keep Eric in your prayers and please consider giving whatever amount you can. Eric is a person of great faith who does whatever he can do to help others and we just would like to help him in whatever ways we can. He is still working from home as he is the support person for a lot of people.
