My name is Mo - I'm a busker living in NYC. My friend - whom we'll simply refer to as "C" to protect her privacy - is someone that I have known for several years now. This fundraiser is to provide the funds to finally get C and her only family, her sweet cat, Vincent, the housing they need.
C is at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities who has been on her own since her early teenage years. She is an activist and one of the most kind-hearted, compassionate, and justice-driven human beings I have ever known, often risking her own safety to stand up for others.
She has a thirst for knowledge and reading and despite the odds being stacked against her, she managed through her own hard work get her own apartment and to enroll in college. But during the pandemic, due to health issues and the terrible job market, she lost everything - something that could happen to anyone without the privileges of safety net of family, money, etc.
Despite working extremely grueling hours as a nanny (an already abusive industry that takes advantage of those who work in it) recovering from this has been extremely difficult. Affordable housing that will accept a cat is hard to find.
And for those who might ask why C doesn’t simply re-home him, Vincent has various health issues of his own, including seizures, so finding someone who is able and willing to pay for medical insurance, including his medication, would be an enormous challenge.
Vincent is currently in the basement of an apartment of an apartment building, fed by a friend who lives there. But he is anxious, depressed, and stressed, not knowing where his mom, C, is.
C has been trying desperately to find an affordable room in a place that will accept cats, but they all require a deposit on top of 1st month’s rent.
The breakdown of the funds is as follows:
1200 deposit
1200 1st months rent
600 for any additional costs that might arise (new mattress if the room comes unfurnished, etc) AND also to cover Spotfund’s 3rd party cc processor, which takes 2.9% plus 30 cents per transaction. To avoid these fees, if you would like to donate via PayPal, Zelle, Venmo, or CashApp, please reach out to C directly at her Instagram account: @vincentbigpaws
A message from C:
"Due to unfortunate circumstances me and my kitty are without a home. Maybe some people might assume I had a cat without having the resources to support him but the truth is quite the opposite. I adopted him few months after obtaining my first apartment for myself, even before I adopted him I had everything for him already including insurance and everything. After the pandemic and personal circumstances including my declining health I was not able to offer him the live I thought I could provide him. Now l ask the wondering sea of users on Internet to help me amplify this problem since I rather swallow my ego than loosing my only family and one of the biggest blessing | had ever received and thats without not doubt my kitty. Good wishes, sharing or donating are truly appreciated or any sort of information that can facilitate things for me and my kitty. Those who took the time and consideration of reading: Thank you and have a blessed one!"
