Most people know me from Gold Rush. What they don't know is that one of the greatest treasures I found wasn't gold—it was the friendships I made in a small village high in the mountains of Papua New Guinea.
While filming Gold Rush: Parker's Trail, I had the incredible opportunity to spend more than a month living in Kuta Village in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. I wasn't staying in a hotel or simply passing through. I lived alongside the villagers, shared meals with them, worked beside them, and experienced their daily lives in a way very few outsiders ever get the chance to. During that time, they welcomed me as family, and the kindness, generosity, and strength they showed me is something I will never forget.
Hidden among the mountains of Papua New Guinea, Kuta Village is home to families who have lived off the land for countless generations. Surrounded by rugged mountains, dense rainforest, and fertile valleys, life still revolves around gardening, community, and family. Most families grow their own food, build their own homes by hand, and depend on one another far more than modern conveniences. Electricity, running water, and easy access to building materials are luxuries many of us take for granted but remain difficult to access here. Despite these challenges, the people of Kuta possess an incredible work ethic, resilience, and sense of community. They don't wait for someone else to solve their problems—they work together to build a better future.
One of the people I became especially close to is a young man named Jopi.
Jopi isn't asking for a handout. He's already doing the hard part. He's building his own home with his own hands.
Today, the house has a roof and some walls that protects it from the rain, but still needs windows, doors, flooring, and many of the finishing touches that will allow him and his family to truly call it home. His garden, which provides much of the family's food, also needs significant improvements so it can better support them for years to come.
We're hoping to raise $5,000 to help finish Jopi's home and strengthen his family's future.
For many of us, $5,000 might be the cost of a vacation or a home improvement project. For Jopi, it represents years of hard work made possible through the generosity of people who believe that everyone deserves a safe place to call home.
But this fundraiser isn't just about one house.
One of the things that impressed me most about Kuta Village was that no one succeeds alone. Families help families. Neighbors help neighbors. When someone has more than they need, they share it. Helping Jopi means helping someone who will continue helping others. A completed home becomes a place where family gathers, where neighbors lend a hand, and where future projects can begin. My hope is that this is only the first step. As Jopi's home is completed, we can continue working together to help other families throughout Kuta Village improve their homes and quality of life.
I have seen firsthand the generosity of these people. They shared everything they had with me without expecting anything in return. Now I have an opportunity to return a small part of that kindness.
Every dollar donated will go directly toward building materials, doors, windows, flooring, garden improvements, and the supplies needed to help Jopi complete his home.
