I'm a disabled widowed senior citizen, I live in Calhoun Ga with my small dog Molly. In 2017 Molly and I were staying with my aunt temporarily until I could find us a place of our own that I could afford on my widows pension and disability income. My aunt was the manager of the mobile home park where we were living. One morning she woke me saying she had some exciting news for Molly and me, she said to hurry and get up and she would tell me over coffee. I finally managed to drag myself out of bed and took Molly outside to do her business. We sat down to have our coffee and she couldn't hold it in any longer (we never had a conversation in the mornings until we both had our first cup of coffee) I was thinking this must be really big news for her to be this excited. And boy was it. She said Sandy(former owner) had called and said he was going to offer some of his renters the chance to buy the mobile homes they were renting. I asked so why is that exciting news for Molly and me. She said because the lady living behind her wouldn't be able to continue living on her own that she has dementia (bless her soul). She said just talk to Sandy about it. So I did the next day, he said he needed $1500 down and I could rent to own for the next 2 years. I was really excited too until the thought entered my mind of how was I going to come up with the down payment in just a few months? I went in to give my aunt the news, before I could say anything she asked why the long face, tears started rolling down my cheeks, I said I have no way to come up with the down payment in such a short time, my credit still showed the foreclosure on our home after my husband had passed. She said well let's sleep on it and maybe something will come up in the morning.
I can't say I slept too much that night I did do a lot of tossing and turning. I just couldn't believe I had this opportunity to buy a home for me and Molly and it was going to pass me by over $1500. All I new to do was pray to Jesus, I knew that was my only hope. I got out of bed and bowed to my knees and prayed like I had never prayed before. The next morning I awoke with a peacefulness that only Jesus can give. I walked to the kitchen to get my coffee and noticed my aunt Judy was on her phone telling someone goodbye. She followed me into the kitchen grinning from ear to ear saying I did it I did it, I said you did what? She said that she got it all worked out so that I could buy the mobile home behind her. Before I could say anything she said I just talked to Sandy explaining your situation and we came up with a plan. You and Molly will continue staying with me rent free and save as much money as you can for your deposit and if you don't have it all when the time comes Sandy said you can pay $50 extra a month until the deposit is paid. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, Molly and me would have a home of our own for the rest of our lives, all I could say was thank you Jesus. I paid my last payment on Halloween 2019.
All I would have to pay now was $100 a month for lot rent. Or so I thought. I did pay $100 the next month only to find out that we had a new park owner from California. A few days later we all received a letter from Jon Staley the new owner introducing himself and the letter said we didn't have to pay any rent for December but come January our rent would double.
The new owner has now evicted all the mobile home owners so he can move In new larger mobile homes and charge $1200 - $1500 a month rent.
That's my situation now, either move my home or become homeless. The cost to move a mobile home is $6500 plus the cost of permits and fees, not including hiring a plumber and electrician for set up at new property. Luckily I have a place to move my home without the added costs of renting or purchasing land.
I live on disability income, and the small amount I had managed to save had to be used a few months ago as the down payment on a used vehicle when my other one died.
If you can find it in your heart to help me out even if it is a small amount I would appreciate it so very much.
Thank you and may God Bless You,
Cathy Massingill.
