Avi's Mitzvah Mission
My brother, Avi, is on his way to volunteer as a guard in small villages in Northern Israel. The picture above is of me, my husband Josh and Avi when he volunteered in the Israeli army 15 years ago. One of his best and oldest friends, Yoni, lives in Misgav with his wife and their 3 daughters. As Yoni and most of the men have been called-up for reserve duty, there is a frighteningly small number of men left to protect the village.
Avi is traveling to Israel with donations that Yoni's village (Eshchar), others in Misgav and throughout the Galil can use to protect themselves:
- 25 pairs of binoculars
- 18 night vision monoculars
- 8 night-vision rifle scopes
- 11 flashlights
- 3 two-way radio sets
- 6 cell phone battery packs
- paracord
- insect repellent
- sunglasses
- headlamps
- other materials that will help keep families safe
Josh and I bought all of these items before taking Avi to the airport. The total was nearly $16,000. This fundraiser is an effort to recoup that cost, while giving our friends in Israel materials needed to defend themselves and friends around the world a way to contribute to the safety of Israeli citizens.
Any additional money raised by this campaign will go to peaceful organizations in northern Israel.
