"The wound is the place where the light enters you", Rumi said.
At some point in our lives, someone may cross our path who emanates so much light from within, that despite the pain and loss they experience, they bring forth even more light into the world. They literally alchemize loss into opportunity; pain into the power of compassion and empathy; tragedy into beauty...they show us how to turn struggle into a medicine that can be shared with others in need. People like this shine a light wherever they go. They are beacons in the darkness. For a human like this, love is always bigger than loss, and grief will always be alchemized into something better for this world.
For those of you who have had the privilege of knowing Jonathan Cantrell, you will know that you have met a man who moves from love, generously and intentionally in service to those who have crossed his path. The pure act of giving is nourishment for his soul. He embodies a living, breathing, full-spectrum expression of love, life, grace, and flow. He works with Nature, not against her. He understands that love is everything. Devastating and traumatic losses do not dim his light. It indeed shines brighter than ever.
On Monday, March 9 2026, and into the overnight hours, Jonathan lost his home, his sanctuary, to a devastating fire. Two of the three cats residing with him were taken in this tragedy. It has been a tender, vulnerable, heart wrenching experience that is being healed through the massive love and light that he holds. His presence is magical and is a story of inspiration: what happens to you happens for you, if you allow your eyes to open to the gift that is being presented amidst the loss.
Please read Jonathan's touching and inspiring words below, taken from a social media post just days after the loss:
"This is about peace, love, loss and perseverance. This is about life and what I do with it. Stars and gray clouds of smoke. The light and the shadows. Nature. Fire sterilizing and forging.
It has been a long journey and this week there was another ripple. Forcing a new chapter. A new timeline.
Choices.
Lose hope, give up, or keep doing the things i believe in to the best of my abilities? For me there is no question.
Peace, care, art, respecting nature and empathy. Building and creation. Love.
I touched almost every inch of this place i called home and a sanctuary. Then had split seconds to react and minutes before it was gone, nothing left to do other than the work ahead to demolish and clear whats left. All with poor cell service and WiFi calling that had been compromised because of intense fire, smoke, flames and heat.
I calmly watched and knew there was little I could do. Even though these moments created a plethora of unknowns.
I didn’t have insurance because the flood insurance itself was like a mortgage payment every month and I want to work to live not the other way around. It has brought out so much care and love from so many. Still so many questions, but my heart, soul and body luckily took little collateral damage and remain strong.
I greatly appreciate the support of so many, the firefighters, my beautiful neighbors, my supervisor and the lovely people I am lucky to have as my work family, all the people that know and love and care for me. My star girl✨
Thank you for your all the care that you’ve shown.
I will continue to rebuild/reclaim. Ride the waves of flow of this stream of life. Sometimes a babble and others a white water rapids.
Grateful to be alive. Even when everything burns, everything is so relative.
❤️🔥⚡️❤️🔥"
This is who Jonathan is. His compassion and love for the Great Mother and all living things, and his desire for spreading love and inspiration, for creating Heaven on Earth, is what drives him forward, onward, and upward.
While you may not personally know Jonathan well, or even at all, I invite you to open your heart and mind to what the world would be like if we could all move from a place of courage; to lean into the love and trust that is needed to heal ourselves and this world, despite the tragedy and darkness that abounds.
That is where this fundraiser effort comes in.
In honor and celebration of this beautiful, magical, inspiring man, I want to offer that this is a Vision Fund that supports him "Rebuilding Magic from the Ashes", and it was lovingly created in the energy of gratitude and deep thanks that he is still here. That he will still have a chance to share his magic with the world.
This fundraiser was also built in the energy of deep trust and knowing that we are all taken care of. When we open our hearts and take care of each other, and choose to move through our lives in gratitude, service, and love, the possibilities are endless, and tragedies do not dim our light. We shine brighter.
This is the world Jonathan and I envision - and we choose to believe that where there is love, there is everything we need.
Please consider offering what you can to help Jonathan in Rebuilding Magic from the Ashes.
