Help Cassie Get the Heart Surgery She Needs to Be Here for Her Son
My best friend Cassie is facing a life saving heart surgery in January and she’s doing everything she can to stay strong not just for herself, but for her son, Jackson, who needs his mom to be the healthiest version of herself!
But the financial burden standing in the way of her treatment is overwhelming.
Even with insurance, Cassie has been told she must pay her full out-of-pocket cost up front $20,000 just to move forward with surgery. Her insurance premium is also doubling next year, and with the ACA in question, she can’t safely change insurance providers without risking losing coverage altogether.
After months of fighting, she was granted an “In Network Exception” so she could see the heart specialist most qualified to help her. While this exception allows her to move forward, it still leaves her vulnerable and with serious expenses to manage. it’s an insurance loophole, not a guarantee. There is still a very real possibility that she could be balance billed for the amount insurance refuses to cover.
If that happens, the full cost of the surgery estimated at $350,000 could fall on her shoulders.
Cassie is trying to focus on healing and preparing for a major surgery that would give her more healthy years with Jackson and her little family. But instead, she’s having to worry about financial ruin at the same time she’s fighting for her health.
No mother should have to choose between getting the surgery that could save her life and protecting her family from crushing medical debt.
