It’s been said the good guys finish last. Let’s make God’s guy finish first! I am creating this page because this is definitely one of God’s guys. If you know Eugene Johnson, the image that just popped into your head was likely one of him in construction clothes jumping out of his truck. Eugene used his skills not only to provide for his family, but to help people in need. Any friend of a friend could call on Eugene to ask a favor. His responses would be said in a humble tone “certainly, I can help you out.” If he wasn’t helping someone out with a busted water heater, volunteering at the church, or using his relationships through construction to bring other ethnic cultures together in his home town of Jersey City, you would find Eugene at home with his family. This is why we HAVE TO DO IT FOR HIM!
On August 12, 2021 Gene was working when he started to feel a weird sensation in his left hand. Gene finished up work and then went to the hospital, expecting a simple solution. 24 hours later to his shock he was informed that he had a tumor on his brain! The doctors told Gene that they wanted to perform brain surgery within the next 48 hours. They also informed Eugene that there would be no guarantees that he would retain mobility to the left side of his body...if he survived the surgery. I sat by his hospital bed not knowing what to say to my friend who may be gone tomorrow. Eugene never dropped his head; he didn’t shed a single tear. Gene reached for his wife’s hand to comfort her. He looked to the doctor and simply said “It will be okay. God has made promises to me that have not yet happened so there is no need for anyone to worry. I will be just fine. I can’t say my faith would have been that strong. Actually, I can say it; my faith would not have been as strong as Gene’s. This is why he is one of God’s guys. THe doctor was just as amazed as I was. Eugene’s wife seemed to expect nothing less of her husband. Eugene made the doctor’s job easier. He has a way of taking the stress off of the people around him. This has always been his way. This is why we HAVE TO DO IT FOR HIM!!
The surgery was successful, just as Gene said it would be. He has a large scar where they stitched his head back and he is slowly regaining mobility to his left side. It has not been easy; Gene just makes it look that way. Against doctor’s orders; against his wife’s orders and despite the concern of his friend, Eugene was back to work less than a month later with only 1 functioning ar. No self pity. NO complaints. No doubt God would make a way. “The bills are going to keep coming, what else can I do?” This is why we HAVE TO DO IT FOR HIM!!!
Last week Eugene Johnson, this champion of the people. This humble servant of God got the call no one wanted. The tumor that was removed was cancerous. Eugene will have to immediately begin an aggressive radiation treatment to eradicate any pieces of the tumor that may have been missed or may begin to grow back. Today, as I write this appeal Eugene is at work. People, please. Let’s get together to help one of God’s guys. Let’s send him a message that he can rest. He can rely on us to help him so that he can focus his faith and strength on healing. Everyone deserves a break. Everyone needs someone else to lift just some of the weight off his shoulders. Eugene Johnson is that “everyone” right now. LET’S BE WHAT we ALL PRAY FOR OURSELVES. It will come back to each of us. Gene has NO IDEA I am pleading with you all; I imagine he will be thankful, but will have some very stern words for me for doing this behind his back! This is why we HAVE TO DO IT FOR HIM!!
Let’s do this for one of God’s guys. If it is only $1, that is $1 dollar Eugene doesn’t have to earn to take care of his family. It is $1 that will allow him that time to fight this cancer and get back himself! I cannot ask or thank you enough. Your generous donation will allow Gene to take the time off for the treatment and recovery time his doctors say is necessary.
