On the morning of Thursday June 26th my brother Rus was the victim of a random stabbing in his neighborhood in Portland, OR. After a brief interaction at the local convenience store, the assailant approached him from behind and stabbed him in the side as he took a morning stroll home from the local 7-11. Thankfully he was able to make it back to the store and got someone there to call an ambulance. He was quickly taken to the hospital where he was treated for life threatening injuries.
Police were able to arrest the suspect within the hour. Rus's friends located him at the nearby hospital later in the day thanks to the home security cam footage of the incident included in this news report.
We're relieved to report that after suffering a significant stab wound, a punctured lung, broken ribs and a number of surgeries, he is now in stable condition at the hospital and on the mend!
The assailant has been apprehended, however Rus' healing jouney is just beginning. The extent of the physical and emotional damage of the attack is still to be determined. We are concerned that his medical insurance will not cover all the costs of the surgeries, a lengthy hospital stay, and after care.
