On the morning of Thursday June 26th my brother Rus was the victim of a random stabbing in his neighborhood in Portland, OR. After a brief interaction at the local convenience store, the assailant approached him from behind and stabbed him in the side as he took a morning stroll home from the local 7-11. Thankfully he was able to make it back to the store and got someone there to call an ambulance. He was quickly taken to the hospital where he was treated for life threatening injuries.

Police were able to arrest the suspect within the hour. Rus's friends located him at the nearby hospital later in the day thanks to the home security cam footage of the incident included in this news report.

We're relieved to report that after suffering a significant stab wound, a punctured lung, broken ribs and a number of surgeries, he is now in stable condition at the hospital and on the mend!

The assailant has been apprehended, however Rus' healing jouney is just beginning. The extent of the physical and emotional damage of the attack is still to be determined. We are concerned that his medical insurance will not cover all the costs of the surgeries, a lengthy hospital stay, and after care. If you feel moved to send a gift of support, he would appreciate it so much!

Hello dear community!

I just wanted to post an update on Rus. He was released from the hospital last Friday and has been doing well recovering at home for the past week. I got to check on him before heading to the airport and was encouraged to see him walking around, and being his usual quirky self. He shared this week that healing is going well and staples come out this coming Monday.

Thanks again to all of you for your generosity and support! So happy my brother is safe and on the mend!

Thank you everyone so much for your care and generosity over these last few days! I’m up in Portland now and got to visit Russell yesterday. He’s in good spirits, but a little worn out from lying around in the hospital bed. He’s starting to walk around a bit and talking story like only Rus can. When I shared with him about this fund he was a bit overwhelmed by how much support you all have sent his way 🙏💞

Although he’s definitely on the mend, don’t let the smiles fool you! Under the gown his abdomen is black and blue, and in addition to the stab wound on his side, he’s stitched up from sternum to belly where they had to open him up to save his life.

Once his lung capacity and blood numbers have stabilized, he’ll go home for the next phase of his healing. Words can’t express how thankful we are for our community’s outpouring of love and generosity!

On behalf of Rus & the Archer family, THANK YOU 🙏❤️‍🩹🤲
