Benny is not just a dog. He is my sister’s baby — her shadow, her comfort, her joy.
Not long ago, he was full of energy, running toward every new day with the simple happiness only a dog can have. Then everything changed. Benny was diagnosed with meningoencephalomyelitis — a cruel disease where his own immune system attacks his brain and spinal cord. The very thing meant to protect him is now destroying him from within.
The damage has been devastating.
Benny is paralyzed from the waist down. He has no control over his bladder. He cannot chase a ball, climb onto the couch, or run into my sister’s arms the way he used to. To move, he relies on the strength of his front legs while a harness gently lifts his back half, helping him take step after determined step. Every movement is effort. Every movement is courage.
And still, he tries.
He looks up with trusting eyes. His tail still attempts to wag. He leans into love as if nothing has changed — even though everything has.
This disease has turned daily life into constant care: medications to suppress the immune system that’s attacking him, specialist visits, physical support, cleaning accidents he cannot control, and the emotional weight of watching a beloved dog struggle in a body that no longer cooperates. The financial strain is heavy. The emotional strain is heavier.
But Benny is still here. Still fighting. Still loving.
He doesn’t understand diagnoses or prognosis. He only knows his family — and that he wants to stay with them.
Please help my sister save her baby. Help give Benny a chance to keep fighting, to feel comfort, and to know that even in the middle of this battle, he is surrounded by hope.
