Al-Baqa'a refugee camp was established in 1968 for Palestinians fleeing the war in Palestine in 1967. Upon arrival, Palestinians were given tents to live in with the hope of returning to their homes in Palestine after the war. Unfortunately, they were never allowed to return home and their tents eventually became small concrete homes where they still live today. Al-Baqa'a is the largest Palestinian refugee camp in the world where nearly 150,000 Palestinians currently live in an area spanning roughly 1.4 sq kilometers.
