My daughter-in-law works 6 days a week and my son was the same hard worker until two weeks ago when he was stricken with endocarditis and lung clots from a staph aureus infection that got out of control.
He had been sick for a week or two, but his nature is to work hard and he kept pressing trying to avoid missing work and seeing a doctor.
Unfortunately, Staph Aureas overtook his system affecting his heart valve and throwing him into advanced sepsis. He collapsed at work a week before he landed in the ER hurting his shoulder and still continued to work. That's just how he is.
He has been in the hospital for nearly two weeks now and has a long road ahead. It’s a day-by-day journey to recovery but this has been a life-threatening situation that we thought he was finally starting to fight to recovery.
Unfortunately, he tested positive for a new bacteria last night, and this is going to cause him to stay in the hospital even longer. It is an aggressive bacteria and they are rotating the third antibiotic constantly.
We haven’t even approached the long-term damage of his heart valve or the scarring that will likely be permanent in his lungs with a very long road ahead with cardiac outpatient care and rehabilitation. His wife continues to work in her position while taking the night shift with Christian. She is exhausted, and overwhelmed.
We are not sure how much longer he will be in the hospital because of this new bacteria that is growing inside of him.
This is going to be a long process of great financial loss and expense to this, young family.
Joe and I are helping to pay his insurance premiums while he is out of work along with other financial needs due to his loss of income and high insurance premiums for the next several weeks, but they may need additional help so even a modest amount would ease their burden and be very appreciated during this devastating time to take a heavy load off of the couple so he can focus on healing and recovery when we get past this critical stage.
His rehabilitation will not be quick. This has caused long-term damage with the possibility of a valve replacement ever-present.
We appreciate your help, love, and above all your prayers for this young couple going through a tremendously frightening experience. Hold your dear ones tightly because you never know what can happen. Every moment is precious.
