Good Shepherd/BonBerger Mission for Children in Haiti near Mirabalais provides a loving home for children from 2-19 years of age who have no parents able to care for them. Last year, they lost their primary funder. Become a partner with a few of us who help to make sure they get clean water, a meal, health care, medicine, and a safe place to reside.

The mission has a volunteer team of two pastors, several community volunteers, and Marie Denise, my good friend who I met in Boston in the 1990s. Marie Denise is the house manager/mother of the children.

At a bare minimum, the children need $900 per month for food, clean water, housing, medicine, and other emergency needs. Any small amount helpS. Every donor gets a weekly update of what is going on for the 40 children at Good Shepherd Mission. You can become part of the story and the future of this mutual aid mission--a sign of hope in practice.

No donation is too small. Why not sponsor a child with your family or church or community group ($60/month) or just yourself for $15/ per month for one year'! You will get a name and a birth month of a child. Funding goes to all the children, however. For details: https://forms.gle/AtAC7C5Df62VUSP86

LIFE AT GOOD SHEPHERD MISSION - HAITI

A few months ago, I invested some of my savings to buy them a dough making machine and stove along with the materials needed to get a local bakery started. Now the oldest children are helping to bake bread and sell it to make a little money for the mission.

Previously, the mission had funds to hire a local leather tradesman to teach the children to make sandals and belts. One day we hope to raise enough funds to offer this again to the children.

House Mom of the children, Marie Denise, with whom we communicate with daily to pray for the mission and learn about the situation on the ground. She is part of a team of Pastor Steeve and Pastor Tyson along with about 5 other volunteers.

The youngest members of the home, twins who have been there since they were four months old. Their mother was killed by gang members while selling charcoal to make a few pennies for her children.

The hand-run dough making machine and brand new stove which we were able to buy from the widow of a baker who had been killed by gang members. It took us a few weeks to find a way to get these delivered to the home.

If you donate through Spotfund, you will automatically receive a frequent (weekly or bi weekly) update of the Mission and its ongoing work. This will come through an email that you used to donate with. Come journey with us! We need your partnership and your prayers.

The children love to learn and they were very proud of their report cards that they received a month ago. Here are some samples. (To provide a teacher for the Mission requires US$100 per month.)

Thank you everyone who spreads the word to help us fund the home, the food, the health care, and the education of these precious children.

Report on some of the children:

Robinio is such a blessing to the Mission. Looked what he baked by himself. These mini cakes bring a bit of income and feed the children. Thank you, Robinio.

They are called "pompket" and they were very popular with customers-- mini cakes-- 2 for 50 Haitian Gourds. The work of baking is getting better even though it is a lot to ask of someone who care for all the children.

50 Haitian Gourds = about $ .38.

Thanks to our donors in March, we were able to open the ground and plant a big garden to grow fresh vegetables and greens for the children. Last week, guess what they harvested and are now eating:

Yes, it's ochra.

Can't wait to see when the corn, papaya, black beans, spinach, and squash get harvested!!

Our current problem is that there is no fence around this new venture of crops. We wait for donors who want to help keep the animals from nibbling on this food that needs to be in children's mouths.
