After 10 years of working to grow their family including multiple rounds of fertility treatments, InVitro Fertilization, and two hospitalized pregnancies totaling roughly 5 months, Michael and Courtney Gorman finally welcomed their second child, a baby girl who was born 13 weeks early. AlbaRose Evelyn Gorman was born unexpectedly on July 7th, 2023 at 27 weeks gestation.  At just 13.5 inches in length, AlbaRose weighed 1 pound 14 ounces and is categorized as a “micro-Preemie.”  She has spent every day since her birth in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Cabell Huntington Hospital, where her parents have also spent every day taking turns visiting her while also taking care of their 3 year old son at home.

Hospitalized in May 2023 for pregnancy complications related to her rare blood disorder, AlbaRose’s Mother Courtney Gorman is a Cabell County Middle School Art Teacher who fully expected and planned ahead to miss about a month and a half without pay while tending to her newborn.  What neither Courtney nor husband Michael, a pastor at a prominent Huntington church, were able to adequately plan for was AlbaRose being taken 5-weeks earlier than the medical team originally planned.

While AlbaRose continues to experience numerous physical challenges typical of most micro-preemies, through prayers and the incredible compassion and talent of the NICU Team, she is making great progress. In light of mounting medical costs, the addition of almost 3-months of unpaid time away from teaching this Fall represents a substantial hardship for which the Gormans were financially unprepared.  Every gift of any size or amount is very greatly appreciated and is a tremendous blessing to the Gorman Family.
