The Summer Daily Mile: Running Together, Giving Together
It started with one simple goal: get our family outside and move our bodies — together, every single day.
We call it The Summer Daily Mile. No fancy equipment, no big plan — just sneakers, sidewalks, and a promise to show up for each other, one mile at a time. We wanted our kids to learn what it feels like to commit to something hard and see it through. We wanted them to know discipline before it's convenient, consistency before it's easy, and the kind of teamwork that only happens when you're all a little out of breath and cheering each other on anyway.
We also wanted to do something even simpler: make it normal again for kids to run outside. To play. To move. To be a little wild and a little tired and a lot proud of themselves.
What we didn't expect was for our friends and community to jump in with us. Families started joining our daily miles. Kids who'd never run a mile in their life were suddenly asking to run two. What began as one family's summer challenge turned into a full community movement — and together, we've now run over 100 miles.
That's when we realized this could be about more than just us.
Here's the next step: for every mile our community runs this summer, we're donating $15 to our surrounding Hockey Club — money that goes straight toward gear and season fees for families who want their kids to play but can't afford to.
Our own kids have never had to hear "we can't afford it" when it comes to playing the sports they love. That's a privilege, not a given — and we want to use it to open a door for a kid whose family is working just as hard, but coming up short on a hockey bag or a season fee. Every mile we run is now a mile that means something bigger. Every donation helps turn a "we can't" into a "let's go."
Here's how you can help: Your donation goes directly toward hockey gear and season costs for a Breakers Hockey family in need. Whether it's $5 or $150, you're not just funding a season — you're telling a kid their dream matters.
We are so grateful to get to teach our children this lesson in real time: that showing up, working hard, and lifting up the people around you isn't just a nice idea — it's a daily mile, and it's a choice we get to make together.
Run with us. Give with us. Let's get a kid on the ice this season. 🏒👟❤️
