On December 31 I decided to join TikTok.
In just a short period of time ive made some really good connections and heard some pretty incredible stuff.
People there bond, over common interest. One of my interest are dogs. I love dogs. I have 2 of my own who cannot be with me right now, and I struck up a conversation one night with a guy up in Virginia who I had been watching play with his dogs on his channel...the doghouse.
Well, after several visits and chatting with various other guests in his room I came to find out the story of doghouse and his 4dogs. These fur babies are misfits for sure but have an undeniable affection, bond and love for each other....and a story to match.
The Saturday before Memorial Day these dogs saved their owners life by waking him up,
to alarm him the house was on fire.
When they got outside 1-2-3....where was 4
He was still inside the house. doghouse ran back inside that burning house to see flames surrounding his 15yr old dog "Obama". There was absolutely no thinking to it...flames or not, he was saving his fur baby. He scooped him up and ran outside and after all four were safe he ran to a neighbor's to call 911.
His adrenaline so high, he didn't even realize he had 3rd degree burns on his feet and his socks were melted to his feet. Nor did he know he was about to be homeless with 4dogs and no way to work, due 6o his injuries, or even rebuild due to a lapse in insurance.
The red cross came out and helped some, and there were some heartfelt contributions from the community but it just wasn't enough.
Doghouse was literally in the yard with his dogs, trauma stricken, wounded, and broken, spending all his savings just to survive.
That was his childhood home.

What sets this story apart is that these dogs who saved this guy....
were saved BY HIM FIRST!
Each one he brought home and saved. Starting with Obama.
Obama was found behind a grocery store tied to a post, on inauguration day 15years ago...skinny and hungry he brought him home and loved him to life.
Thinking Obama needed a friend and another dog needed a home he decided to foster a dog and found Maxwell.
Maxwell had been at the shelter since he was 6mos old where he came in having to have his toe amputated after being hit by a car. He had been at the shelter a year and a half. He was 2 when doghouse found him and made him part of the family.
One day he saw Malachi, a white boxer needing a home, from a Facebook post. Malachi was deaf and had health issues and doghouse drove 3 1/2 hrs to get him and bring him into his home. Malachi lived another year and 1/2, he died in doghouse arms. After he was buried in the yard, his dog brother Maxwell grieved and cried for him.
Doghouse heard about yet another dog on death row at the shelter and went to get Pooh Bear. He was scheduled to be put down the next day. Pooh Bear had anxiety, safety and trust issues, but doghouse 6ook him anyway. He is now part of this dog pack family.
During the 2022 Christmas holiday he had decided to go and foster a dog during Christmas so that there would be ONE LESS dog having to live thru Christmas in the shelter. The shelter brought out Miss Piglet, they told him she was having a hard time in there. She had developed an abscess on her eye and just wasn't doing well and needed some TLC. So he took her home as a foster and made up his mind by Christmas morning that she had found her new home with him and his boys. She was renamed PRINCESS Piglet Pancake Pirate and despite many setbacks and health issues eventually claiming her eye....she has found a home with her dog brothers and is now living a VERY loved life.

This little dog family and their owner are displaced from their home because of this fire. The house is not a complete loss and doghouse can do aloy of the work himself if he could just get back in his house and his dogs could be with him and in their yard that they love. Anyone who has a dog knows that your dogs yard is THEIR PLACE and it is PRICELESS.

Not long ago during some of the darkest days of my life, I needed help, and there was none to be found. Anywhere.
I couldn't understand that.
I decided I wanted to BE THE CHANGE I WANTED TO SEE. I've been working really hard on that the past year. I've had to DePROGRAM and REPROGRAM my mind and figure out HOW to get out of the darkness. Well, ONE THING I do is I do what makes me feel good as a HUMAN. And helping another person who helps DOGS...THAT DEFINITELY MAKES ME FEEL GOOD.
