I was incredibly blessed to be raised by a mother who was full of compassion, wisdom, and mercy. She was slow to anger, quick to listen and always ready to serve. My mother was a faithful woman who loved God and was a true worshipper. She poured into her family and community, loved people deeply, and gave generously. In addition to the care she provided as a Registered Nurse, my mom distributed business cards to people she met, encouraging them to email her prayer requests so she could pray for them. She also served around the world, for example, providing dental care at a pop-up clinic in a rural community in Jamaica. She found so much joy in generosity, care and service. I have no doubt that she is no longer suffering and in the presence of The Lord.
My mom's journey has not been easy. Mom developed vascular dementia at an early age, which did not leave her time to prepare for retirement or complete final arrangements (i.e. life insurance). For the last nine years, she has needed around-the-clock care, which has required a great deal of financial resources. My sister Johonna and her husband Julian took on the responsibility of her care and arranged for Mom to join them in Canada after they relocated there. As our family prepares to lay Mom's body to rest, we are asking for support to help cover the costs of bringing her body back from Canada to the cemetery in the US where her mother (our grandmother) is buried, and preparing her body for burial.
