 My homestead is worth 164,000 and i can get it back currently for 70,000 if can pay back taxes before deed transfer but have little only a few days. The County Has foreclosed on our home that we live in for back taxes. They have sold my house at auction under homestead law, I can buy it back from the county for two years with interest 25 percent first year 50 percent second year. My family and I got caught by complete surprise and was unaware that could do that on a homestead in Texas. We may be evicted at anytime and any funds raised could help us per accuire a new place to stay so we will not be homeless and in danger out on the street. I have set the goal at buy back in hopes maybe I can get our home back but truly I do not expect to get it but if needed anything can help and I will claim money early if needed even if not at goal to pay a deposit on rental and get storage unit if needed. The worst thing about this I had just gotten ready to start YouTube back up. I am very scared for my wife and 3 boys and do not want anything bad happening to them over this. We appreciate all help and plan on getting videos out on channel soon as possible and making sure the arms and armour for the channel are safe through eviction when it takes place if we can not save the homestead.
To explain why taxes are so high. My father passed away and my mother did not switch the deed to her name, paying in his name for about 15 years. After she passed away I was paying on it in his name still not knowing any better he had senior, disabled and vet status so his taxes were very low they country realized he died had me switch it to my name not counting my mothers senior and disabled status that was lowering the property tax. So county adjusted back taxes that were paid in full to my rate and then it appeared as it was not paid at all in all those years with penalties and interest I owed around 40k to start off when i inherited it. They county also said we had to pay 20 percent down and pay it off in a year. Sorry that was impossible at the time and amount kept rising ever year as property value increased by 25 percent every year until it was hopeless trying to put a down payment on especially after COVID hurt my income badly. I had homesteaded to lower the taxes and was told by many that if homesteaded they couldn't take my only home from me but apparently it was missinformation and although it gives many rights it did not stop this tragic event from happening, worse I never left the property and it was homesteaded and the records. My homestead tax reduction was on the year I homesteaded and counted and then missing all the years in between now and foreclose only reappearing the year of foreclosure have no idea why its so high and appears this way on report.
