Help bring to life an herb shop and medicinal plant nursery in the Gorge!

Hello!

My name is Amanda Daniel, and I am the founder, gardener, and herbalist of Bearfoot Botanicals. I have been studying herbalism for 17 years, making quality small batch herbal products for 10 years, working one-on-one with clients for 7 years, teaching classes and hosting herbal workshops for 5 years, gardening professionally for 15 years, and have loved spending time with the plants since I was a young child! This is my life's work and I love it so much.

2025 has been my 4th full year at the Hood River Farmer's Market, and each year has been wonderful and full of more growth than the last. I love bringing quality herbal products to the people and so enjoy growing baby plants for folks to take home to grow and make their own remedies. My favorite parts of this work are teaching folks about the "weeds" that are edible and medicinal, helping them form more of a relationship with the land, and matching folks with the herbs that will be beneficial allies in their healing journeys.

I frequently receive requests for bulk herbs and places to pick up products locally. We don't currently have a full-service herb shop in The Gorge, and I am also in need of one of these places. So, I am creating one! I have dreamed of opening an apothecary for the past decade.  After this season I will be transitioning away from my labor-intensive garden maintenance business, and I am in need of a new place to make and store products outside of my home. This feels like a natural time to transition into a new space. After a couple years of looking, I have found and secured a retail location in the Heights in Hood River! I am very excited and am raising funds to help cover initial costs and open the shop this winter.

Here is a bit more info about the place:

~Kitchen - This location will hold a production kitchen to make all Bearfoot Botanicals products and expand offerings to include tea, herbal honeys, and eventually, herbal bone broth and other herbal infused treats (GF/vegan baked goods!). This will be a strictly gluten free, dairy free, egg free facility.

~Retail - 100+ bulk herbs sourced as locally as possible and always organically grown, a wide variety of tinctures, salves, infused oils, hydrosols, teas, culinary herb salts, bath soaks, skin care, medicine-making supplies, mugs, teapots, books, botanical gifts, and more. We will stock products from the local makers you love!

~Consultations - Local space to have an in-depth and holistic herbal consultation with herbs available on-site. Mini-consultations will be available free of charge to assist in choosing herbs.

~Education - Workshops offered on a variety of herbal and gardening topics, as well as guest teachers with classes in other modalities, botanical arts, and more.

~Outdoor space - This location has a cute yard for a plant nursery, as well as for tables and chairs to enjoy tea with friends.

~Plant Nursery - We will stock a wide variety of locally cultivated medicinal herbs, culinary herbs, textile dye plants, and native pollinator plants for your garden.

~Community Care - My plan is to offer free/sliding scale herbal consultations each month to increase access to this valuable resource. We will also accept donations to help provide herbal care for folks that are not able to purchase them. Folks will have an option to add a $1 or more to their purchases to go towards neighbors in need.

The funds I raise here will go towards:

Initial rent costs, insurance, kitchen set up, licensing for kitchen, building of shelves for bulk herb section, shelving for retail products, front counter and point of sale, website, graphic design, initial inventory of bulk herbs and locally-made products, ingredients, cleaning supplies, packaging, printer, and a work computer.
