Union Island, SVG Hurricane Beryl Relief Efforts from Shanice Duncan, Charity Organizer, & Daughter of Jardine Duncan, RN & Union Island Native
My name is Shanice Duncan, and I am currently a grad student and project manager. Union Island holds a special place in my heart as it is my mother’s homeland and a cherished part of our family history. Growing up, I spent joyful summers on Union Island, creating lasting memories with my family and forming a deep bond with the island and its people.
The recent devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl has left me heartbroken. Seeing the place I love so profoundly suffer such extensive damage is demanding. The storm has left 90% of Union Island’s structures damaged, with many residents without homes, food, and necessities- family included. My heart goes out to everyone affected, and I deeply empathize with their situation.
I have been taught to give and support others in times of need, and this drive is a manifestation of that lesson. Together with my mother, Jardine Duncan, RN, BA, CCRN, we work tirelessly to bring much-needed relief to Union Island. We urgently seek donations to provide essential items and support the rebuilding efforts. Your contributions can make a significant difference in helping us rebuild and restore Union Island.
From Jardine Duncan, RN, BA, CCRN, Mother of Shanice Duncan
I am Jardine Duncan, RN, BA, CCRN, a proud native of Union Island. The devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl has personally affected my family and me. Many of my loved ones have lost their homes and their sense of security. The island also faces a severe shortage of adequate medical supplies and care, making the situation even more dire.
Union Island is not just a place to me; it is where my roots and family history are deeply embedded. Even after moving away, I have always maintained strong connections with Union Island. My heart aches for the island and its people, and I am committed to doing everything possible to help.
My daughter and I have launched a comprehensive relief effort and charity drive, Union Island Strong Cares NY, and have partnered with St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church. We focus on critical areas such as clean-up, health and sanitation, food and personal care supplies, clean water, and children’s needs. Your donations are crucial in helping us address these needs and bring relief to the affected communities.
