Hi everyone! If you do not know me, my name is Taya Phillips and I live in Wilmington, North Carolina. I currently am a junior at UNC Wilmington majoring in Exercise Science with a concentration in Allied Health and a minor in Spanish. I'm setting up this GoFundMe to help myself raise money so that I can study abroad in Spain this summer! I have been studying spanish for about 10 years and it has been my dream to go to Spain for quite some time now. This study abroad trip will not only allow me to become fluent in the Spanish language, but will also allow me to experience the culture in Spain and share my experiences with those around me. We live in a very diverse world where it is important to appreciate other cultures around you and the challenges that they are facing, whether you notice it or not. I am aware that this is a high goal, however, I have been working since I moved to Wilmington at a local retirement community to help save up for this trip because it is something that I am very passionate about. I am planning to go to Seville, Spain from May 28, 2022 through June 27, 2022. This study abroad trip is estimated at around $4,995, not including the passport fee, a round-trip plane ticket fee, or application fee for both UNCW and the college that I will be taking 2 Spanish classes at in Seville. I am estimating that after all of these expenses combined, it will be around $6,000. The study abroad program that I am applying for includes up to 6 credits on the Spanish Heritage and Culture Program, the cost of staying with a host family, 3 meals a day, a 2 day excursion to Granada and Córdoba, a day trip to Cádiz, a guided tour and entrance to the Real Alcázar and the Cathedral and Giralda Tower, a tapas tour, a flamenco show, 24/7 emergency support and comprehensive insurance, and access to the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment.
