Hi! I’m Meredith. I’m not gonna lie, I am struggling right now. Around Christmas of last year, my health began to decline. After months of never ending doctors visits, a truckload of tests, numerous ER trips, and a week long hospital admission… we finally got some answers. I was diagnosed with a genetic connective tissue disorder called Hyper Mobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. In my case, this condition comes with a lot of comorbidities. I am now fed using a feeding tube, and my independent mobility is limited to my wheelchair. I live in immense amounts of pain every day. The hardest part for me isn’t just being sick, it’s what that means for my future. I have thrived off of independence my entire life, and now that has all been stripped from me. I have always had big plans to move away from home into a cute little apartment filled with cats and Halloween decorations. But now I can’t even get in the car by myself. A small glimmer of hope in this journey for me has been the thought of a service dog. The possibility to gain back some of the independence I have worked so hard for my whole life. The possibility to maybe still live on my own one day. Or to just feel safe on my own at night, not worried I will fall and no one will know. There is an endless list of things this service dog could do for me, it is genuinely amazing. But this process is mind blowingly expensive. Will you help me gain my quality of life back? My puppy will be a German Shepard named Remus Lupin (yes, after the Harry Potter character :) and he will be my key to success. Will you help me reach my apartment? The life I have always dreamt about? Every dollar or share will get us that much closer. Yes, my life may look different now, but I still have hope that I can reach the things I always hoped to. Please help me get there. <33 *

** update! We have reserved a German Sheppard puppy with Robin and Carlos Huerta! They are available through text at +1 (815) 275-5533 if you are in the market for a puppy as well 😊

** update 2! Is Remus is home and now we are working on getting him enrolled in his training programs

Meredith had a wonderful visit with ENT Dr Tsang  today who finally has diagnosed her hearing loss and figured out it is bone conduction hearing loss which is common in hypermobile EDS. He also offered that this could possibly be fully reversible and she wouldn't need any kind of hearing aid. We are off to CT for further investigation. They will also look at her sinuses to figure out if they can help headaches. This was a medical win for us which was fantastic.
Remus update is that he is booked for puppy two week puppy university with Ridgeside K9!! he leaves December 3 so he'll be back by Christmas!

A very happy Thanksgiving to all!!!

We are thrilled to announce that Meredith will be picking up her puppy in about two weeks! Then the training can begin to put our boy on the path to becoming the perfect service dog for Meredith. This training is approximately $10,000 over the life of the dog which is a much more reasonable figure than we thought we would have to spend. We are lucky to have had found the perfect training company for him! thank you to all who made it possible for us to bring him home! We are still working towards generating funds for the training!

Yesterday was a big day for Meredith as she finally got her surgical GJ tube placed. Now she will be able to get more reliable nutrition that bypasses her stomach. She has a gastroparesis which means that her stomach does not process food properly and it causes her great pain and nausea to eat by mouth. The procedure was very simple though and we were able to come home by the end of the day yesterday. We had a fantastic team of doctors at Children's National  Medical Center, which is where her sister Emily was inpatient  10 years ago her birth and stroke. We feel incredibly blessed to be so close to such fantastic medical care.  Meredith's testing for dysautonomia is still in process so we haven't been able to treat the things that make her dizzy and pass out yet but hopefully that will come soon. Thanks again for all your support as we go through this!
