This project has come about due to a the toxicity and leakage of lithium ion batteries in smartphones, as reported here - https://eepower.com/news/100-toxic-gases-from-li-ions-its-not-just-about-fires/
Numerous studies are showing lithium ions are unsafe under several conditions including using the wrong charger, overheating (in the sun or a hot room), being dropped, or being otherwise oxidized at the electrode - and release toxic gases when this occurs.
There is a growing cohort of people (almost 109 now) who have connected specific severe health effects & symptoms with use of their smartphone - especially during charging - including the phone getting very hot, a wet screen/case, burning eyes, breathing problems, headaches, oily taste in mouth, etc. There is also an associated degenerative condition and long term effects
Subsequent tests by the author of this fundraiser have confirmed gas releases from said smartphones, (iPhone 7) - with significantly elevated fluorine in results, as well as pentane gas, which is known as one of the gases lithium ions release. Tests were done at a firm specializing in gas testing, using GC/MS at a lab
Additionally, a handheld meter for hydrogen fluoride (international gas detectors) picked up 1.1 ppm HF coming from the iPhone 7 (another known component of lithium ion releases).
Lastly, a skin/hair sample of an exposed patient was tested for chlorine, bromine, and fluorine via Midwest Micro Lab, a halogen specialty lab, showing a level of 1500 ppm fluorine in tissue! (safe level for drinking water - 2 ppm).
A safe smartphone solution is needed.
The author of this project has found an engineer on upwork.com who can modify/create a batteryless iPhone.
This way, we can still use smartphones, without the danger of lithium ion gas/solvents continuously. The phone will need to remain plugged in during use, but will not release toxic gases.
The initial product will be a prototype, and if it works as planned we should have a place to buy these from for everyone.
If your phone is affected by this issue, there is about a 1 year delay period before you begin to notice symptoms. We are trying to prevent this before it occurs.
