Mac is an 8-year-old Harlequin Great Dane, and a beloved family member to one of the best most selfless humans I know, Chelsea Gasper. Chelsea runs a doggie daycare/boarding facility (Dogs Unleashed), and rescued Mac when he was 2. She nursed him back to health and taught him to trust again. He has flourished in her care. He's grown to be a fan favorite from friends and family, to her other dogs, and doggie daycare patrons and their dogs. He's a giant love bug and will lean on you to let you know he likes you and wants your love and pets.
Yesterday (12/6/23) Mac was seen by his vet for a limp and some swelling in his ankle joint. It was discovered after an X-ray that they believe he had developed osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer that may require amputation of the leg to prevent its spread. To determine the next steps it will require a costly biopsy. If it is confirmed, the care as well as the amputation will run into the 10s of thousands of dollars. Chelsea is a single mother of a wonderful boy (Mason) who has the same heart for animals as his momma. This has shaken them both to their core as they cannot fathom being without Mac for the foreseeable future, and would like to make every attempt to prolong his life.
In the spirit of the impending Christmas holiday, we would ask that you find it in your heart to give what you can or at the very least share the fundraiser to maximize their ability to get Mac the care he deserves.
I know Chelsea and Mason both appreciate all the thoughts, prayers, support, and donations. We will keep everyone updated as things progress. Thank you in advance for your compassion and love.
