Pre-Funeral Arrangements for Miss Mae
My friend and neighbor, Willie Mae Mickens, is an 84-year-old widow, who has been living in a nursing home since August 27, 2022. She has several chronic health conditions and is diagnosed with dementia. Miss Mae had lived in a home she purchased almost 30 years ago and was very independent. She loved her cats, enjoyed gardening, and had been a volunteer at her church, feeding the hungry and the homeless.
On July 20, 2022, her life changed drastically and unexpectedly. Almost everything that she owned was removed from her home. Miss Mae was left, pretty much, with only the clothes on her back and her purse. Later that day, she had a medical emergency and was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where she remained until she was placed into long-term care.
Miss Mae and I bonded over comfort food and great conversation during the height of the Covid pandemic. Her words of wisdom comforted me during that very difficult time. When she needed a legal guardian and there was no family in the area, I volunteered to fulfill the role.
Miss Mae has a prepaid burial plot, but her prepaid life insurance policy will only cover a fraction of her estimated funeral costs. No one can predict when our time on earth will come to an end, however, I want to be prepared to take care of my neighbor and friend when she is called home. Any amount that is donated will help to make her homegoing service a great tribute to a very deserving lady.
Whether or not you donate, I would really appreciate it if you would share this message on your social media platforms.
Warm regards,
Willa Jones
