Hi, I’m Megan. I’m a veterinarian from [Northeast Ohio], and in August 2027 I’ll be riding the Mongol Derby, the longest and toughest horse race in the world.
Here’s what that means: 1,000 kilometers across the Mongolian steppe on 28 half-wild horses, swapping to a fresh one every 35 km at a herder family’s station. Ten days of riding from sunup to sundown, navigating by GPS and map, carrying everything I need for the whole race in a 5 kg saddlebag. Roughly 40 riders from around the world start. Not all of them finish.
I’ve wanted to do this for [years / as long as I can remember]. [One or two sentences from Megan on why: what horses mean to her, the moment she decided, what she’s most nervous and most excited about.]
What your money does
The entry fee alone is $19,000, and flights to Ulaanbaatar, kit, and insurance push the total higher. That’s what this campaign covers. I’m funding the ride one kilometer at a time, and every gift here goes toward getting me to the start line.
A few ways to help:
Sponsor a kilometer, or a few. Every name goes on the Kilometer Wall at PetEveryDog.com/dexpeditions
Name a horse. Sponsor one of the 28 horse stations and you name the horse I ride out on that leg. I’ll post your horse, with your name, from the station itself
Business sponsors get their logo on my riding kit for all 1,000 km
One thing I want to be clear about: this is personal sponsorship, not a charitable donation, so it isn’t tax-deductible. The Derby also requires every rider to raise money for its charity partner, and I’m doing that separately so nothing gets mixed. [Link to the charity page once it exists.]
Why “every dog along the way”
This ride is the first expedition for Pet Every Dog, a project built on a simple idea: wherever you go, there’s a dog worth meeting. The herder families whose horses I’ll be riding keep Bankhar dogs, the big shaggy guardians of the steppe. I plan to meet every one of them, and you’ll see all of it on @dexpedition_mongolderby.
Thank you for reading this far, and for anything you can give. I’ll see you at the start line.
Megan
