We are reaching out to ask for support for one of the Hillcrest community’s greatest neighbors, Dana Peterson. She is quietly battling lung cancer and will soon have a wedge resection to remove the adenocarcinoma. Dana needs financial assistance with copays, surgery aftercare, prescriptions, pulmonary rehab, and other treatment related expenses Medicare will not cover.
Known to many as “Grandma Dana,” she has a long history of fighting for what is right and giving back to the community. For decades, she has been rallying for marginalized groups, including women, people of color and the LGBTQ community.
Today, many know Dana as the organizer of protest rallies on 6th and University, which have grown from just Dana holding her now legendary “Elon - Kiss my vintage a**” sign, to dozens of people joining her. She is standing up for all of us and she really needs us to stand up for her now.
Dana is a proud member of the Kiwanis Club of Hillcrest All-Inclusive and regularly participates in community service efforts, always with a smile, always making everyone feel good about themselves. Dana loves to dance and can be found regularly on the dance floor at Rich’s on Thursday nights, at The Rail for karaoke nights, and at Urban MO’s watching all her favorite drag entertainers perform.
Dana lights up every room she walks into even after living through a variety of struggles in recent years. If you have the means, please contribute what you can so we can help Dana beat this cancer and be our friend, neighbor and “grandma” for years to come!
