My little sister Grace experienced a stroke on January 22, 2026 caused by a rare blood clot affecting her brain’s ventricular system.
Since then, she has been recovering at home with the support of our family. I transitioned her and her husband to my home so he and I could tag-team her care. In many ways, she has made meaningful progress — she is walking, dressing herself, and able to gently participate in daily life. At a glance, you might not even realize everything her body and brain have been through over the past several weeks.
However, due to ongoing memory and impulse-control changes following her stroke, and extreme fatigue due to severe iron deficiency because of internal bleeding of which the cause is not yet known, Grace is not able to safely live independently.
At this time, she is unable to reliably manage her medications on her own, safely prepare meals using a stove, or leave the house on her own without supervision. Because she is currently taking blood thinners during recovery, preventing falls or injuries is especially important.
While Grace continues to heal, me and her husband are providing daily in-home support, including:
• Preparing meals
• Supervising medications
• Transportation to medical appointments
• Monitoring for safety during recovery
We are currently in the process of applying for long-term care services through the Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS). While we wait for medical eligibility to be assessed and services to be coordinated, we are covering these needs at home to help Grace recover safely and avoid any setbacks or injury.
Funds raised will go toward supporting Grace’s recovery during this transition period, including caregiving needs, groceries, meals, transportation, and other essential recovery-related support.
We are deeply grateful for any support during this time.
*Recovery timelines can vary, and we may adjust this goal as Grace’s care needs evolve while we wait for long-term support services to begin.
